Ways Operators Can participate in the WMU 13 Moose Research Project

GET INVOLVED:

As some of you prepare for the spring bear hunt season, MNR is encouraging operators to participate in the study! Please see the note below for the upcoming operating season:

Operators are encouraged to collect and submit samples from as many moose as possible that have been harvested in WMUs 11B, 12B, 13 and 15B. They are also looking for samples from bears harvested in WMU 13. This can include muscle samples, liver samples, brain samples, and more (equal to or less than 10 grams of meat). This will help staff conduct DNA analysis and examine overall health. Store frozen if possible.

They are also looking for incisor tooth samples from moose, and premolar tooth samples from bears. Please cut and don’t break the tooth as staff need the entire root for analysis.

Please make note of the sex, date, and location of the harvest and contact Moose.Research@ontario.ca to arrange a sample transfer.
