Supporting Wildfire Response in Northern Ontario

Recognizing the urgent need to support communities affected by wildfires, Destination Northern Ontario (DNO), the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO), and the Nature and Outdoor Tourism Ontario (NOTO) have joined Air Canada and the Air Canada Foundation in supporting this fundraising campaign, helping to raise awareness and support ongoing recovery efforts across Northern Ontario.

As wildfires continue to impact communities across Canada, including Northern Ontario, the David McAntony Gibson Foundation (GlobalMedic (David McAntony Gibson Foundation), a humanitarian partner of Air Canada and the Air Canada Foundation, is providing critical support to frontline responders and evacuees.

Through its Fire Skid Unit Program, GlobalMedic equips rural and volunteer fire departments with specialized systems that convert pickup trucks into rapid-response firefighting vehicles. To date, more than 610 fire skid units have been deployed across Canada.

In response to the current wildfire emergency in Northern Ontario, GlobalMedic is working with regional paramedic services to deliver additional fire skid units to smaller fire departments actively responding to the fires, while also supplying protective coveralls for firefighters.

GlobalMedic is also supporting evacuees staying in hotels in Toronto, Barrie, and Niagara with wellness checks, mobile clinic services, emergency snacks, and hygiene supplies.

To help strengthen these efforts, the Air Canada Foundation has launched a fundraising campaign. Donations will be accepted until July 31, 2026, with every contribution helping to provide essential equipment and emergency support to communities and first responders affected by the wildfires.
