Justin Lafontaine & Darrell Schuurman
Justin Lafontaine, Program Development Manager, Travel Gay Canada
Justin has been developing innovative tourism initiatives and collaborative partnerships for over 14 years. He has been working with Travel Gay Canada since 2011, facilitating LGBT tourism and event program development in destinations across Ontario. Justin is the Founder of the Bike Train Initiative, former Projects Director of Transportation Options, and was awarded the Ontario Tourism Innovator of the Year Award in 2008. Justin earned a B.A. with Specialization in Urban Studies from Concordia University (Montreal) in 1998.
Darrell Schuurman, Managing Partner at DNA Marketing Group
Darrell Schuurman is the co-founder of Travel Gay Canada, working towards improving economic opportunities for members through research, product development, and the promotion of Canada as an LGBT travel destination. Darrell is also the co-founder of the Canadian Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.
Darrell has over 20 years’ experience in tourism, working in the accommodation, transportation, tourism services, and travel trade sectors of the industry.
Darrell is currently the Managing Partner at DNA Marketing Group, a specialized marketing company offering a full-range of services for the tourism industry. Prior, Darrell spent 6 years with VIA Rail Canada as Manager of Market Development and 5 years with the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council as Director of Sales & Marketing.
Darrell completed his Bachelor of Commerce Degree concentrating in Tourism at the University of Calgary, and completed his Executive MBA from Richard Ivey School of Business, Western University.
Justin and Darrell will be conducting two sessions at this years’ Northern Ontario Tourism Summit in Thunder Bay.
1. LGBT Travel Market Seminar – November 17 (3 hours)
TGC’s LGBT Travel Market Seminar will provide valuable market information and an overall introduction into who the market is, what they are looking for, and how to reach them. The seminar is targeted to tourism businesses and stakeholders looking at entering the LGBT market, and provides an effective starting point for LGBT tourism strategy development.
2. Conference Breakout Session – November 19 (1 hour)
This breakout session will feature panel presentations from TGC and a local LGBT group on LGBT tourism and community development, what has/is happening in Northern Ontario, followed by a question and Answer period.
