Federal Government Extends Border Restrictions Until September 30th, 2022, With Possibility of Extension

It is with great frustration that we share the news that the Federal Government has extended the border restrictions until September 30th, 2022, with possibility of extension. This announcement was made in the early evening hours on Wednesday, June 29th, 2022.

This means that in order to enter Canada, individuals must be fully vaccinated, enter all of their information into the ArriveCAN app, and face the possibility of being selected for random testing.

Canadian citizens who are unvaccinated who are returning to the country will need to produce a negative COVID-19 test before crossing the border, enter their information into the ArriveCAN app, and will be required to quarantine for 14 days.

In this same announcement, the Federal Government has stated that they aim to move random testing for those arriving by air to outside of airports through the use of pharmacies, or having the tests done virtually with a health care practitioner.

This announcement comes after many industry organizations and opposition MPs called on the government to drop various border measures, arguing that these measures are continuing to stifle Canada’s already depleted tourism sector.

Last week, the Northern Ontario Border Working Group along with three Northern Ontario operators hosted a press conference. During the press conference, it was made clear that in order for the tourism industry to recover, we need the remaining border restrictions to be eliminated.
