Consultation on Proposed Special Economic Zones Criteria

Consultation on Proposed Special Economic Zones Criteria

The Ministry is seeking comments on the draft proposed regulations and policy that will establish the criteria for designating Special Economic Zones (SEZ), projects, and proponents to ensure Special Economic Zones advance important economic activities while meeting high standards for operation, safety, and the environment.

The following materials are available for review:

  • Draft Policy Intent & Guiding Questions – Outlines the proposed designation criteria and guiding questions originally shared with Indigenous communities.
  • Indigenous Communities Consultation Feedback – A summary of feedback received to date from Indigenous communities, which continues to inform the process.
  • SEZ Draft Regulation (Designation Criteria) – A draft regulation reflecting the input received so far, provided as part of the ongoing consultation process.

The draft proposed regulation may continue to evolve as the Ministry consults with, and reviews and considers feedback from, Indigenous communities and the public.
