2016 NOTO Award Presentations
December 2017
At the 2016 Northern Ontario Tourism Summit, NOTO was pleased to recognize the contributions of three very well deserving individuals.
President’s Award
Outgoing President, Brenda Baughman presented the NOTO President’s Award to Frank Bastone who will be retiring from the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines in early 2017.
Frank Bastone has been with the Ministry for 27 years. For the last 17 years, he served this industry with passion and drive as Northern Development Advisor out of the Kenora office. He has participated in countless important Government and industry lead committees to represent the tourism industry. He has helped countless tourism business owners navigate funding applications and Government regulations. Frank’s support of the tourism industry has been unwavering and very much appreciated. We truly hate to see him go but wish him a happy retirement.
Executive Director’s Award
Executive Director, Laurie Marcil was delighted to present her award this year to Rick Dickson of Dickson’s Black Bear Hunts based out of Wawa.
Rick has shared his 30+ years of bear guiding, hunting and baiting experience through his work on NOTO’s Bear Task Force. He has represented the bear outfitting community with a great passion through this task force as well as in meetings with Government. He accompanied NOTO staff to a number of meetings with Government, on his own dime, to support NOTO discussions regarding the bear hunt issues over the past year. Rick has been a steady source of information and support for the NOTO Office. We thank Rick for his dedication to this industry.
