During the Northern Ontario Tourism Summit, NOTO has learned that there is legislation preparation underway that, when it is presented & if approved, would require all businesses to have defibrillators on-site. This is still in the very early stages and we will continue to keep a close eye on this development and keep members informed.
As part of Bill 141 (Defibrillator Registration and Public Access Act, 2020), The Lieutenant Governor may make regulations to define “public premises” for the purpose of this regulation, govern the registration process of defibrillators, establish the powers and duties of inspectors, the obligations of other persons in respect of inspections conducted by an inspector, and the admissibility in court of evidence procured by the inspector.
Regardless of the potential for new regulation, having an AED on-site is still recommended as it could save someone’s life.
