The Ontarians with Disabilities Act 2005 stipulates that all businesses in Ontario confirm to the Accessibility Standards for customer service by January 1, 2012. Business owners and managers need to know the steps in order to meet the standard.
The Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) in partnership with the Ontario Tourism Education Corporation (OTEC) has been conducting a series of workshops throughout the province to help businesses understand the requirements to be compliant with the standard.
The workshops are focused on educating businesses about the legislation, tools to help you comply, and tips and strategies to communicate with customers who have various types of disabilities. The program also examines how to coach and prepare your team to achieve the standards and providing excellent service to people with various types of disability. Businesses will also learn about the value and benefits of providing service excellence to customers with disability.
Nature and Outdoor Tourism Ontario is urging all  businesses to register and attend this workshop. It is very important that you become familiar with the steps to become compliant with the act. The registration cost is heavily subsidized, take advantage of this opportunity.
There will be a workshop in Sudbury on November 15, 2011. The registration forms and additional information can be downloaded here.
