Northern Ontario Tourism Operators Brace for Tough Season
Laurie Marcil, our Executive Director, has taken the time to participate in several interviews, one being with CBC News.
Without a doubt, COVID-19 has been devastating for the industry. In this interview, Laurie shared some alarming results from our most recent survey. NOTO has highlighted that for some operators, losing the 2020 season could mean losing their business altogether. Approximately 40 to 50% of business revenues for the year are made during the months of May and June. Resource-based tourism businesses only have four to five months to generate that annual revenue. Out of the 225 participants, who represent approximately 20% of the resource-based tourism businesses in the province, 30% of them are seriously considering permanent closure.
