MNR Crown Land Regulation and Permitting Reform Opportunities

  • NOTO submitted a response to ERO posting 025-1141

  • Met with MNR Crown land policy branch to discuss our submission
  • Reiterated the value of the northwest boat cache program
  • Presented the benefits for government and industry regarding modernization of type A and B land use permits and longer term tenure for these types of crown land occupations without the need for formal surveys.

ERO Submissions specific to Forestry

  • NOTO is currently reviewing and developing submissions for the following MNR proposals on the ERO:
  1. ERO – 025-1134 – Natural Resources Regulatory and Permit Reform Initiative: Improving forest legislation, regulations, processes and forest management policy 
  2. Revisions to the Forest Management Guide for Boreal Landscapes (2014) and Forest Management Guide for Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Landscapes (2010)
  3. Revisions to the Forest Management Guide for Conserving Biodiversity at the Stand and Site Scales (Stand and Site Guide) 
  • Messaging opportunity to reiterate the importance of proper planning to ensure the tourism sector values on the land base are protected.
  • Submissions will be shared once complete

Transport Canada’s Flight Duty Times

  • Global exemption is still held up in the Minister’s Office
  • Additional supporting document for the development of Fatigue Risk Management Plans for air carriers is out for discussion with stakeholder groups
  • Pilot’s union is challenging the global exemption
  • NOTO & CNASS Pushing for a decision before end of March
