While we continue to address ongoing issues, I want to share some thoughts that shape our daily work.
Turning Challenge into Opportunity:
This season, our sector has managed to avoid the worst impacts of tariffs and strained US/Canada relations. However, uncertainty has led many tourism business owners to delay upgrades and expansions. We encourage operators to move forward with improvements, big or small, as competition for both domestic and international travelers is growing.
Sector Strength:
Ontario offers a diverse range of experiences, from vibrant cities and welcoming communities to breathtaking wilderness and endless waterways. There’s something here for every traveler seeking adventure and connection with nature.
The Importance of Advocacy:
To maintain and grow these offerings, our outdoor tourism voices must unite. Advocacy ensures that regulators and policymakers understand how they can help unlock our sector’s true economic potential.
Resource-based Tourism’s Impact:
- $400 million annual contribution to GDP
- Over 13,000 jobs created
- $145 million in federal taxes
- $222 million in provincial taxes
- $38 million in municipal taxes
- These numbers highlight the significant role that resource-based tourism plays in supporting our economy.
Call to Action:
NOTO will continue to champion opportunities for our sector, but we need your support. We encourage you to become a member of NOTO, complete our surveys, share your feedback, encourage peers to join us, and let us know about your successes and challenges.
Together, we can ensure a vibrant future for the resource-based tourism sector.
