Spring 2015 Message
Today as I look out my office window I see a wonderful blue sky and I can hear the birds calling to each other, some using their spring songs already. Here in Nolalu we still have at least 2 feet of snow in our yard and the thermometer is farther below zero than we would like but the days are getting longer and the sun is feeling warmer so the hope of Spring is in the air.
As most of you are doing, I am looking ahead to our next busy tourist season with anticipation and excitement. Things are looking good for those of us in the Northwest since most of our guests travel from the U.S. Our lower Canadian dollar will encourage many who are on the fence about a Canadian fishing vacation to visit us. For those in our industry in the Central, Northeastern or Southern Regions, who draw guests mainly from Canada, the lower dollar will encourage many to stay in Ontario for their vacations as their dollar will go further at home this year than it will abroad. The lower gasoline prices will make travel more affordable for everyone and our operational costs will also be lower. All in all it could be a great year to be in the Outdoor Tourism Industry in Ontario.
Our new Board of Directors for 2015 is in place and eager to help guide Nature and Outdoor Tourism Ontario into the future. We are a group of enthusiastic outfitters with a wealth of experience in our industry. We have directors who have been in the industry for more than 40 years and directors who have less than 10 years of experience. We have directors who spent time in other industries and other directors who are the latest to own and operate a multi-generational business.
All of us, like you, have chosen to become Outfitters because of the independence it gives us and the chance to do what we love in the great outdoor space of Ontario. We recognize the challenges of making a living in our chosen occupation and we accept the responsibilities that come with these opportunities.
On behlalf of the NOTO Board of Directors, I wish you a safe and prosperous 2015 and we look forward to seeing you in Sault Ste. Marie in November.
