Business Technology Improvement Fund (BTIF)

Are you looking to enhance your website or social media, improve your business processes with hardware or software updates, improve your communications with guests implement and/or improve online services? Then the BTIF program is for you!
This program was designed allow a business to identify, invest, and implement technology to improve business, e-commerce, and applications. The Northern Ontario Connectivity Network Organizations will work with eligible small and medium-sized enterprises to help them define their technology objective and goals throughout the program.
The BTIF will provide eligible SME with access of up to $5,000 in non-repayable funding to support e-business development and solutions including: new and/or updated website designs; content management system (CMS) integrations; content/search engine optimization (SEO) development; digital marketing planning; e-business sales; custom software development; and back-office improvements.
The BTIF will also include a digital technology adoption component providing SME access of up to a maximum of $25,000 in non-repayable funding to support the purchase of digital technologies or services and new products, such as, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP); specialized design and production equipment; client relationship management (CRM); and other hardware and software technologies. 
Participating SME will be required to contribute 50% toward project costs. Work undertaken prior to the date the application is received is not eligible for the program. Please contact your local ICTN for more details.
Eligibility

  • Established Businesses operating on a full-time basis, with a valid Canadian Business Number, are eligible.
  • Established seasonal businesses, such as tourism operations, are also considered eligible.
  • Businesses must be located in one of the Northern Ontario Connectivity Networks catchment areas.

Website Projects:

  • Website development
  • Responsive website design
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  • Website Analytics
  • E-Commerce
  • Training on how to manage, maintain and update your website from your project vendor

E-business Software or Hardware Projects: 

  • The purchase of software and integration into existing business platforms (Adobe Pro, photoshop, Microsoft products, any program that you currently do not have.)
  • Software solutions which connect online services to your business machines (connecting inventory or scheduling/booking software to your website or mobile application)
  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
  • Mobile application development
  • Point-of-sale hardware or software (such as iPads, Laptops, card readers
  • Software training for maintaining and managing your software solution from your project vendor

Social Media: 

  • Consultations
  • Research and strategic planning
  • Account creation and optimization
  • Training to execute your social media campaign project, including social media literacy, learning best practices, and effective campaign planning from your project vendor.

Technology Adoption Education:

  • Course fees
  • Certification
