Earlier this month, we gave you a run down of the first day of the Northern Ontario Tourism Summit in Sault Ste. Marie. As promised, we are following up with details on the second day, Tuesday November 17th, to let you know of all the amazing opportunities and events attendes will have access to.

Tuesday November 17th: After joining the rest of fellow attendees in the convention centre, you will be formally welcomed to the summit by some VIPs. Co-hosts Tourism Northern Ontario and Nature and Outdoor Tourism Ontario will update attendees on upcoming initiatives. After a short coffee break brought to you by our friends at Hawk Lake Lodge, renowned trends and marketing expert Max Valiquette will give an exclusive presentation on key trends in the tourism sector. After lunch and a walk around the summit trade show, we will hear important updates from our federal and provincial partners. Mid-way through the afternoon, attendees will break off into concurrent workshops for the rest of day (see the agenda for more details). Training highlight: What to Expect When an Environmental Officer Inspects your Facility

Offered as a concurrent workshop on the third day of the summit, Dawn Talarico and Kirk Crosson from the Ministry of Environment & Climate Change will take attendees step by step through inspections on your facility. 

An Environmental Officer (EO) is a provincial officer who has the legal authority to enter a facility to conduct an inspection under environmental legislation in Ontario. EOs administer programs and enforce legislation to protect air and water, manage wastes, control the use of pesticides and promote healthier ecosystems in the commercial, industrial, municipal, institutional and agricultural sectors.
In this session find out why your business is being inspected, what the EO is looking for and how to prepare for the inspection, legislation the EO is using and what happens after the inspection.
Also the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change has proposed a risk-based streamlined approvals process to help owners of unapproved onsite sewage works of a certain age, and meeting specific criteria, obtain the required approvals. 
This presentation will describe why the process is being proposed, provide a high level overview of how it works, and identify the anticipated benefits.  It will also explain the next steps in moving forward towards implementation.
