 Greg Modler is the Chief of Operations for the Canada Border Services Agency for the Ports of Entry of Thunder Bay and Pigeon River.
Greg has worked in some aspect of the border operations for the past 28 years in both the front-line operations and within the Operations Branch at our National Headquarters in Ottawa.
Greg relocated to Thunder Bay as the Chief of Operations in November 2013 from the Ottawa area. Prior to working in Thunder Bay, Greg worked the Canada/US border along the St. Lawrence River, where his main concentration focused on the immigration aspect of border management. For the past ten years while working in Ottawa at the National Headquarters, Greg worked in the Operations Branch within both the Land and Air Operations; focusing on the Customs, Immigration and the Food Plant and Animal areas.
The CBSA is responsible for providing integrated border services that support national security and public safety priorities and facilitate the free flow of persons and goods, including animals and plants that meet all requirements under the program legislation.
The CBSA administers more than 90 acts, regulations and international agreements, many on behalf of other federal departments and agencies, the provinces and the territories. The CBSA manages 117 land-border crossings and operates at 13 international airports. Of these land-border crossings, 61 operate on a 24/7 basis, as well as 10 of the international airports.
The CBSA carries out its responsibilities with a workforce of approximately 13,000 employees, including over 7,200 uniformed CBSA officers who provide services at approximately 1,200 points across Canada and at 39 international locations.
